MacOS X is pretty cool but how do you remove the extra applications?

MacOS X Lion (and other MacOS version) come with few preinstalled applications like “Chess“, but you cannot remove/uninstall them the conventional way …
A waste of diskspace when you don’t really need the application (specially when you’re running low on space on your snappy SSD drive) …

Ever wanted to just sit back and wait for your favorite movie to be pulled from the web?

Couch Potato is a nifty little program that helps you downloading movies (for TV series see Sick Beard).

It doesn’t actually download anything but NZB files and tries, like Sick Beard does for TV Series, to locate movies you’re looking for. In the end an application like SABnzbd will then download it from a Usenet service like Giganews.

Couch Potato can actually run on your QNAP NAS – just like Sick Beard and SABnzbd, so that’s what we will look at in this article.
In the meanwhile the CouchPotato version 2 is available: Read the forum post by sl1000. It appears v1 (0.4) is no longer supported.

Sick Beard comes with an Auto Update mechanism,… this is how it works.

Since the Sick Beard QPKG is custom made for the QNAP, I always get nervous about auto updates. Will it work or will it break my QPKG?

Rest assured (kind-a); it seems to work just fine … and here is how.

What can we improve on our beloved digital camera’s?

A few things I can come up with; light sensitivity, or how about taking a picture of what I really see (wide angle without the distortion please), add some super zoom and shove it in a super compact little box that produces stunning pictures?

OK that’s maybe to much to ask for, … Lytro however comes with a camera that does change how we might use a camera in the future. No need to focus, you can do that later when you’re back home behind your computer.

XBMC and MySQL combined make all your XBMC HTPC’s hum in sync …

One of the really nice features of XBMC is that it has the means to provide additional information on TV-Series, Movies and/or Music.

XBMC does not only work with the background info or synopsis of a movie or TV Series/Episode, it also remembers which ones you have seen, and even where in a movie you stopped – so that at a later time you can resume where you left of.

There is one little bummer to this though … the XBMC in my living-room is not sharing this the XBMC in my bedroom – and this is where MySQL comes in play.
